Let's break a record together!
e pluribus unum:
World’s Longest Friendship Bracelet
“From many— one!”
I want to celebrate diversity and achieve something special together as a community. A percentage of proceeds from every local workshop will benefit local and regional organizations working to protect immigrant rights, addressing food insecurity, or actively supporting BIPOC and LGBTQ community members.
The current record (unofficially?) is held by Girls Friendly Society UK at 1362.42 meters (53,638.58 inches) and was completed in April 2026, right after I came up with the idea for us to break this record. Before that, it was held by Valley Creek Elementary School (USA) in McKinney, Texas, USA. Their friendship bracelet measured 852.19 m (2,795 ft 9 in) and was completed on 28 April 2023.
So, if the GFS record is is 53,639~ inches…. that is around 4,470 12” long bracelets. So…..then let’s shoot for at least 60,000 inches or more, which is 5,000 bracelets! There is no timeline requirement, but I hope to achieve it over the course of 18 months (or sooner!). Do you think we can break the record by December 2027? My goal at the end of this is to have it hung and displayed at the PDX airport, or at the Portland Art Museum!
If you are not local but wish to participate, fill out the web submission form and mail in your contribution! Yes, you may contribute more than one bracelet, as long as it was handmade by you. All contributions to the art piece will receive a registration certificate.
