FIRST WORKSHOP DATE AND LOCATION PENDING.
Let’s break a Guinness World Record together, and celebrate the diversity that makes us strong!
Tickets are $8 and you will make two bracelets. One goes into the Friendship Swap Box, where you pick out another one to take home with you. The other goes into the community art project, joining into what I hope will become the world’s longest friendship bracelet!
The current record is held by Valley Creek Elementary School (USA) in McKinney, Texas, USA. Their friendship bracelet measures 852.19 m (2,795 ft 9 in) and was completed on 28 April 2023. So, if theirs is 33,549 inches…. then let’s shoot for at least 40,000 inches or more! That means we need approximately 3,333+ people to contribute one 12 inch bracelet to achieve the final winning community art piece. My goal at the end of this is to have it hung and displayed at the PDX airport, or at the Portland Art Museum!
50% of proceeds will go to a charity we all vote upon at the end, and the remaining portion will be to cover materials and storage/logistics.
If you are not local but wish to participate, fill out the web submission form and mail in your contribution! Yes, you may contribute more than one bracelet, as long as it was handmade by you. All contributions to the art piece will receive a registration certificate.
To ensure we avoid issues with weight/logistics/storage/display,
Bracelets must:
Use embroidery floss only. No seed beads, please!
Be limited to 12 braided strands and 1 inch or less maximum width.
Be approximately 6” of body design with 3” end strands for tying, for a total of 12” long.
